Vision

Development Planning of the Port

Adhering to the East-West Expanding Strategy along One Coastal Line, Yantai Port Group has already established a new pattern for port development, under which the four port areas (including Zhifu Bay Port Area, Western Port Area, Longkou Port Area and Penglai Port Area) are taken as the core body and the medium/small-sized ports in the west (such as Laizhou Port, Shouguang Port, Dongying Port and Binzhou Port) will play a supportive role. In the future, by means of the combination of investment attraction and business canvassing, Port of Yantai will continue its expansion towards the west along the northern coastal line of Shandong Peninsula. Through port development and joint operation, Port of Yantai will make rational layout on port terminals and further improve its comprehensive transportation system. On this ground, Yantai Port Group will be established into a modern logistics center, and transformed from a first-class giant one  into a first-class giant with outstanding competence.

Vision

As the cradle and core area of Yantai Port, Zhifu Bay Port Area is located in the north of the city’s down town section, with the business scope mainly covering container, Ro-Ro and conventional cargoes. There are 59 various berths (including 36 deep water-depth ones of over 10,000 DWT), with the maximum alongside depth of -20 m and the maximum accommodation capability of 200,000 DWT, and a total quay line of 11,268 m.

Along with the acceleration of urbanization of Yantai and the development of Western Yantai Port Area, the port function adjustment will be speeded up in Zhifu Bay and all the bulk cargo businesses will be transferred to the Western Port Area in the future. And by that time, Zhifu Bay will be transformed into a modern port area which is well matching with the urban economy and environment development of Yantai, with the main business scope covering container, Ro-Ro, commercial vehicle logistics and international cruise services.

As the core section for the port development of Yantai, the Western Yantai Port Area is situated adjacent to the northeast sea area of Yantai Economy & Technology Development Area. The total planned land area is about 60 square kilometers, including the port operation area of 34 square kilometers, and the port-related industries zone of 26 square kilometers. The operation area is divided into five zones, i.e. Liquid Chemical Product Zone, Conventional Cargo Zone, Break-bulk Cargo Zone, Crude Oil Zone and Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) Zone, with reserved container operation areas and railway ferry service areas. Sixty-five berths of 50,000-300,000 DWT are to be built in this area, enabling the port to handle cargo of 200 million tons and container of 15 million TEUs per annum.

The construction of Western Yantai Port Area was formally commenced in September 2005. Part of the terminals were put into trial operation in October 2010, and after that, the construction works was undertaken while the port operation was going on. Up to now, a batch of facilities have been completed and put into operation, including three conventional berths of 50,000 DWT, seven liquid chemical berths of 50,000-100,000 DWT and two ore berths of 200,000 and 400,000 DWT. In addition, two berths of 100,000 and 150,000 DWT for ore and coal, and one petroleum berth of 300,000 DWT, have been put into operation. Storage tanks of 2.71 million cubic meters have been completed. The approaching channel which has been already built up is capable for navigating of 300,000 DWT vessels. At present, partnership has been established with quite a few large firms such as China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) , Poly, Wanhua Group and Titan Petrochemicals Group Limited for joint construction and operation on relevant projects in the Western Port Area.

In the future, Yantai Port Group will make full utilization of various preferential policies, intensify investment on improvement of port function, and eventually establish the Western Port Area into a base for energy import/export, storage and transferring businesses in the north of China, an ore transshipment and distribution base in the north of China and even in the Northeast Asia, as well as a comprehensive and professional central port area for oil products, LNG, ore, coal, bauxite, fertilizer, steel and renewable resources.

As a major part and the important bridgehead of Yantai Port for market exploration in the western regions, Longkou Port Area is located in Longkou City, which is the nearest port (with 150,000 DWT berths) adjacent to the middle and northwest regions of Shandong Province. The main business scope covers handling and storage of coal, bauxite, petroleum, chemical products, regular shipping liner between Africa and China, and container. Now there are 30 berths, including 19 ones of over 10,000 DWT, with the maximum accommodation capability of 150,000 DWT and a total quay length of 5,881 m. In the future, with a target to offer quality services for growth of regional economy and port-related industries, Longkou Port Area will be developed into a comprehensive port area for coal, bauxite, liquid chemicals, oil products, pulp, wood chip, container and regular shipping liner between Africa and China. Furthermore endeavor will be made to establish Longkou Port Area into a major base for coal mixing in the north of China, an important passageway for coal transportation from north to south of China, as well as a key port for grain business, a non-ore transferring base and a container feeder port on the southern coast of Bohai Sea.

As a major part of Yantai Port, Penglai Port Area is located in Penglai City and mainly engaged in the businesses of conventional cargo (including timber, construction materials and coal) and Ro-Ro from Penglai to Lvshun. Nowadays, there are 8 berths, including 3 berths of over 10,000 DWT, with the maximum accommodation capability of 50,000 DWT and a total quay length of1,483 m. In the future, with a target to match the demands for development of Ro-Ro transportation, tourism economy and the port-related industries in the local area, Penglai Port Area will be established into a comprehensive handling port for cargoes such as coal, cement, steel and timber, and additional efforts will be made to enable the port to be the largest professional timber distribution center in the north of China.

As a major part of Yantai Port for market exploration towards the west, Shouguang Port Area is located in Yangkou Economic Development Zone of Shouguang City in Weifang, 10 kilometers away from the estuary of Xiaoqinghe River. Shouguang Port Project covers a land area of over 4600 mu (1 mu is equal to 666.7 square meters) with a quay length of more than2,200 m, consisting of 13 berths of 5,000 DWT, four multi-purpose berths, two container berths and seven liquid chemical product berths, with an annual traffic of 8 million tons. Supportive facilities such as road, storage yard, foundation works and the logistics park in the back-up area have been built up as well.

Shouguang Port Area will be constructed into a container feeder of Yantai Port, a transshipment port in the western region of Shandong Province, an important container transshipment base in the Yellow River Delta, a major transshipment base for ore, coal and liquid chemical products in the northwest of Shandong Province, the river-sea shipping port in the north of Yangtze River, as well as one of the key regional ports of China.
