Container is deemed to be one of the core businesses for the development of Yantai Port. At present, Yantai Port is dealing with container business with more than 20 famous domestic and foreign container shipping companies such as China COSCO Shipping Group, Coheung Shipping and SITC Shipping. Up to now there are 5 shipping lines from Yantai to Japan (with 5 regular liners per week), 6 shipping lines from Yantai to South Korea (with 12 regular liners per week), 1 shipping line from Yantai to South Korea and Japan (with 1 regular line per week), 1 shipping line from Yantai to Southeast Asia Countries (with 1 regular line per week ), 5 domestic feeder lines (with 13 regular liners per week), 23 domestic trade shipping lines (with 38 regular liners per week). The container traffic turned out to be 2.702 million TEUs in 2017.

Now there are 11 specialized container berths, with a total quay line of over 3,600 m and the maximum alongside water depth of -17.0 m. There are 25 quayside gantry cranes, over 1.3 million square meters of storage yard, and various professional supportive facilities. The 6th generation container vessel, which is the most advanced one, can be easily accommodated at Port of Yantai. The actual container throughput capability of the port is 4.6 million TEUs.

Basing upon the deep-water terminals and the policy advantages of the bonded port area, as well as the sound external economic conditions, Port of Yantai will be established into one of the mainline ports for ocean and short-range ocean transportation of container, and one of the base ports for domestic container business.
